Obituary of Ruth Givens Turner

Ruth Givens Turner, age 95, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at AHC Crestview Healthcare in Brownsville, TN. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Lonnie Robinson and Bro. Larry Kendrick officiating. Ruth was born on May 7, 1926, to John Clifford and Emma Castellaw Givens in Brownsville, TN. She married the love of her life, Charles Haney Turner on May 24, 1949, in Corinth, MS. There were married 62 years before Charles preceded her in death in 2012. Ruth loved people and retired from Richard’s Insurance Agency in 1994. She loved her church, family and home. She was much loved by her grand-children, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her great-grandson, Paxton, in her later years. Ruth was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Morris (Randy) of Brownsville, TN; one grandson, Nick Morris (Erin) and one granddaughter, Holly Morris Wright (Jere). She also leaves her three great-grandchildren, Paxton Morris, Tilly Morris, and Hallie Wright. In addition to her husband, Charles Turner, she was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Emma Givens, and two sisters, Margaret Thompson and Cornelia Kendrick. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Sharolett Allen, c/o InSouth Bank, P.O. Box 879, Brownsville, TN 38012, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
