Obituary of Mary Jean Smith

Mrs. Mary English Akins Smith, age 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, September 30, 2019. Her Celebration of life service will be conducted, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 10 AM in Christ Church of Brownsville with Pastor Eddie Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening October 1, 2019, 6 PM to 8 PM at Christ Church.

 Mary loved her Jesus and served him faithfully. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking and canning with them. Crocheting, gardening and shopping at the Mennonite store also brought her great joy. Those left to cherish her memory are her four daughters: Karen Lynn Akins, Auburndale, FL, Debbie Qualls (Dalton) Stanton, TN, Annette “Tinker” Phillips, Deanna Fox, (Mike), both of Whiteville, TN. nine grandchildren: Randy McCoy, Christopher “Bo” McCoy, Jeremy Qualls (Lori), Jena Antwine, Amanda Phillips (Jason), Jesse Hayes, Micheal Snyder (Crystal), Leslie Fox, Ethan Fox, thirteen great-grandchildren: Jaxon McCoy, Lauren Qualls, Hayden Qualls, Drake Antwine, Charlie Cates, Mason Phillips, Jacob Phillips, Lillie Phillips, Kayleigh Hayes, Kyndal Hayes, Bryson Hayes, Knox Snyder and baby to come, Neyland Snyder.

Mrs. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Lavern E. Akins, her second husband, Jimmy Joe “Buster” Smith, a brother: Howard E. English, six sisters: Leona Janach, Lois Bintiliff, Delores Crews, Betty Bell, Opal Sheffield and Jaque Vaughn.
