Obituary of Bro. Claudie Hammers

Bro. Claudie Hammers, age 89, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 28, 2019 in Whiteville, TN.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019, at 11:00 AM at the Harmony Baptist Church with Bro. Eddie Little and Bro. Grover Westover officiating. Burial will follow at the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.

Bro. Claudie Hammers was born in Medon, Tennessee.  He was a retired Baptist preacher who loved preaching the Word of God and telling people about the Lord.  He leaves a legacy of faith and service to the Lord that was a blessing to so many people through the years.  He served as Pastor and Interim Pastor at several churches in Hardeman and Haywood County including Porter’s Creek Baptist Church, Midway Baptist Church, and Liberty Baptist Church, Poplar Corner Baptist Church and Allen Baptist Church.  He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.  He loved his family dearly, and he also enjoyed fishing and gardening.   

Bro. Hammers is survived by his wife of 34 years Marilyn Cossar Phillips Hammers of Whiteville, TN, two daughters, Kathy Hunt (Paul) of Medon, TN, Melissa Dowdy (Jason) of Somerville, TN, one son, Joey Phillips (Debra) of Whiteville, TN.  He leaves a legacy of four grandchildren, Phillip Jason Hunt, Heather Carver, Jessica Carver, Charles Phillips, niece Brenda Elder, and four great-grandchildren,

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Luedell Hammers, a daughter, Linda Carol Hammers Carver, his parents Lenard Ambro Hammers and Irma Pyles Hammers, one sister,  Bessie Willoughby.
