Obituary of Lynn Harvey Mathis

Lynn Harvey Mathis, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, TN with Pastor Michael Elliott officiating. Lynn was born on December 26, 1946, to Horace Olbert and Ella Mae Mathis in Brownsville, TN. He was well-known and well-loved in the Brownsville Community before moving to Jackson, TN. He was the 2nd generation co-owner of the Economy Store in Brownsville, TN before retiring in 2018. He was a faithful member of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Suzanne Ellis Mathis of Jackson, TN; one son, Dr. Chris Mathis (Linda) of Germantown, TN; two daughters, Jennifer Mathis Cunningham of Brownsville, TN and Sylvia Brown (Richard) of Brownsville, TN; his in-laws, Robin R. and Joan Ellis of Humboldt, TN; one brother, Ray Mathis (Melessia) of Jackson, TN; and his beloved companion, Linus. He also leaves a legacy of love for his four grandchildren, Ainsleigh Cunningham, Delaney Cunningham, Rebecca Brown, and Bentley Brown. Pallbearers for the service are Richard Brown, Robin W. Ellis, Douglas Mathis, Woody Ellis, Sam Wilkerson, and Robert Wood. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Gibbs, Jr., Dr. Jerald White, Milton Smylie, Jack Taylor, Johnny Hart, Dr. Rudy Meeks, Michael Edwards, Roger Harris, Robin R. Ellis, Robert Jones, Clifton Liggon, Jerry Mathis, and Jim Perkins. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Cumberland Heights, 8283 River Road Pike, Nashville, TN 37209 or Star Center, 1119 Old Humboldt Road, Jackson, TN 38305. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
